This game is definitely different with character creation than other games that allow extensive character customization. That's another aspect I'm really connected to the character I created. Kinda scared, 'cause I don't wanna lose a leaf. I haven't experienced any combat as of yet. The hidden details in the sprawling, procedurally generated landscapes compel you to search every point of the map to find pieces of the broken story behind the scattered tatters. There's a true serenity and curiosity to most environmental interactions. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the game is the exploring and collecting reagents and items. I look forward to putting the hundreds of hours I can already foresee myself playing into this game. I feel like a kid again and can't wait to get back to this world. I created my character and added my own elements of a rich backstory that give me this feeling of ownership and immersion that I haven't felt since first venturing into Morrowind. I absolutely love the potential that this game offers players. The character customization and detailed elements throughout the world are far beyond what I would describe as intentional and excellent. This is the most tranquil and beautifully designed, truest to RPG-form game I have played in ages. If you're a streamer looking for a chill game to play while you talk to your audience, this one is a very good fit! If you're the kind of player that skips dialogues then this game might not be for you. If you're not in a mood for a slow-paced game or you're looking for wacky-stressed-inducing action right now, then get it but play it in another, more appropriate time. If you're considering buying it, but you haven't made up your mind, this is the sign you were looking for! Go Khelim, go! Playing the game in Early Access has one very unique advantage, as I really like how they managed to link the game's development with the narrative of the world, which makes it feel more alive to me.įinally, I'm writing this review mostly because I think this game is awesome and it will be even more awesome once it's finished, but for that to happen it will need support through its development. I just hope it manages to thrive in the current gamedev scene, as releasing a game this innovative in EA is also delicate. There's still a moderate amount of bugs, as expected from an Early Access game (Some people might forget what Early Access implies), but overall it's been a great experience, both on my own, and with random travelers I've found around. This might sound like a negative aspect for some players but for me, it fits perfectly with the design philosophy I was expecting of it. There's no Group Find, Quest Log or Compass that guides you towards your next quest step, it relies on curiosity and autonomy from the player, and the simulation of organic interactions with NPCs and other players. There are stats, yes, but few and rather of circumstantial uses like combat, which is something you can focus on, but you'll be missing a lot of what BoT has to offer if you do so.Īs far as I've seen there's a good amount of content that remains hidden for the players to find, which is a huge risky bet that I really want to see pay off: I love finding secrets but I can imagine less-curious people giving a fast glance and thinking there's nothing of value here. Its features are qualitative, instead of quantitative. It might not be for everybody but even on its current unfinished state, it's the kind of piece of art that makes you wonder whether or not art is prone to manifest itself one way or another. This game might be ahead of it's time, but for me it's a pioneer into the future of world-driven narrative role-playing games.
